About Body Art Jewels

The Story As a small child I loved to dress up like a prince (I was a tomboy) and cover myself in things that glittered and shone.  I collected ornate boxes to house my treasures and would lose myself in the stories the sparkling jewels would reveal to me. Fables of princesses rescued, of marble walled palaces that echoed the ancient history of color, spice and fragrant flowers. Today, my daughters and I often enjoy a rainy afternoon looking through my treasure boxes, admiring patterns and color, allowing the shimmer of the gems to evoke new adventures.  However, I noticed I was wearing less and less of my jewels, either afraid to lose or break a valuable piece or simply weighed down by its bulk.  Thus, my husband Carl and I created Body Art Jewels. They capture the allure of mystery, adventure and fantasy and are weightless, radiant and easy to wear. We are also dedicated to positive change.     When I wasn't a prince, I imagined I was a cat-person from a city on the clouds who came to earth as an exchange student. Of course I had magic powers and I would set about to rid the world of hunger. As a teenager, I evolved from idea to action by volunteering for organizations like Oxfam America and Amnesty International. As an adult, my activism found its voice in my writing and plays, but I felt I'd grown complacent. By Creating Body Art Jewels I have found a way to contribute and educate more actively.
